From FIFA World Cup play, international, professional, NCAA National Championships, All-American, Golden Glove Winners, All-State, All-Conference, goalkeepers of the decade, Honor Students, and well beyond, this is arguably Academy One's greatest year so far. Certainly the best year so far academically. Multiple Ivy League and Ivy League level graduates, Master's Degrees, and Doctorates only scratches the surface of this Class' accomplishments. All of the members graduated from college and most earned their Master's degree and more. But as always, we are even more proud of the people that each one of them has become.

Matt has been a member of Academy One Goalkeeping since 2008, where he has been a part of some of the best club and high school teams in the country. He was a member of the top club and US Soccer Academy program in the nation, The Baltimore Bays. Before joining his Bays US Soccer Academy team, Matt's Baltimore Bays club team reached the state semi-finals twice. His first year of US Soccer Academy play, Matt was the sole goalkeeper of the top ranked Bays U-14 US Soccer Academy team in the nation. He gave up the fewest goals in the country - 3 - in leading his team to the nation's best record. After his U-14 season, Matt joined the Baltimore Bays U-16 Academy team for two years. In his first year, the team made it to the US Soccer Academy playoffs. During his junior season, Matt shared starting duties with fellow Academy member Brian Gore. Matt was a member of two nationally ranked high school programs. His freshmen and sophomore years in high school, Matt was a member of the McDonogh varsity team that made the finals of what many consider the best private school conference in the nation. Matt shared time at McDonogh with fellow Academy One member Matt Sanchez. Both seasons his school team lost in the finals. In both seasons, the team was ranked #1 in the nation for half the season. Matt transferred for his junior year to one of the best private academic high schools in the Maryland area, Gilman. Matt was teammates with fellow Academy member Andrew Harris. Again, Matt's school team lost in the finals; this time in overtime. Matt did not play high school his senior season due to his US Soccer Academy commitment. He again helped his Baltimore Bays team to another academy playoff spot. In the summer of 2012, Matt committed to an offer to study and play soccer at Pennsylvania State University, but inconsistencies with the Penn State coaches inspired Matt to instead attend The University of Denver and be a part of their nationally ranked soccer program. Unfortunately, Matt badly broke his hand during his freshman season and thus ending his soccer career. He then transferred close to home to study at academically prestigious Loyola College of Maryland. Matt earned his undergraduate and Master's of Business Administration from Loyola and now works and lives in the Baltimore area.

Robert had turned down an offer to spend his senior year in Britain for one of the professional team's youth Academy. Robert committed to a scholarship to study and play soccer at University of North Carolina - Greensboro. His first year at Greensboro Robert red-shirted. Robert joined Academy One in the winter of 2009. He was a talented hard worker who was tirelessly devoted to improving as a soccer player. Robert was one of the best goalkeepers in the nation for his age. Robert had been playing for some of the best teams in the DC area. His club team, Arlington, reached the state semi-finals and was in the top league in the Maryland/DC/N. Virginia area. Robert also played on the DC United Super-Y League team as well as a member of the DC United extended training program. Robert joined DC United one of the nation's best US Club Soccer Academy U-16 teams. Robert then moved to the McLean US Soccer Academy team where he started 95% of their matches and helped lead the team to the Academy playoffs. He continued as the starter for the U-18 Academy team until an administrative change in that Academy program inspired Robert to seek a more competitive program. Robert had several options and chose the Potomac US Soccer Academy program to finish out his club career. Robert has started for his high school team since his Freshmen year. Attending the academically prestigious Bishop O' Connell High School, Robert showed his versatility by starting not only as a goalkeeper, but as a field player. After his junior season, Robert was named Washington DC All-Met and WCAC All-Conference in one of the best private school leagues in the nation. Because of the requirements of being a US Academy player, Robert was not allowed to play his senior season of high school soccer, but became the goalkeeper coach of the women's team at O'Connell. Robert helped their goalkeepers, Ashley Cox and Monica Pearring - both Academy One members, to excellent seasons as the women's team reached the championship match. Robert had turned down an offer to spend his senior year in Britain for one of the professional team's youth Academy. Robert committed to a scholarship to study and play soccer at University of North Carolina - Greensboro. His first year at Greensboro Robert red-shirted. Realizing that Greensboro was an excellent soccer program, but the school was not best for his future, Robert transferred to nationally ranked Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Robert spent three years at Butler. In his Senior season, Butler captured the Big East title and went to the NCAA Tournament. Robert earned a degree in Marketing at Butler. After Butler, Robert utilized his last year of athletic eligibility and his desire to further his education by accepting an offer at Georgia Southern University. Robert started 14 matches in net for the Eagles as a graduate student. Robert went 7-5-1 with a 1.17 GAA and he logged 1,227:17 minutes of action and notched 36 saves. Robert collected his first career shutout by making a pair of saves in the Eagles' 1-0 win over Houston Baptist and he made a pair of stops in a 2-0 shutout at Appalachian State. Robert played all 110 minutes and made five saves in the Eagles' scoreless draw against Appalachian State in the Sun Belt first round, then won a 5-4 penalty kick shootout to help Georgia Southern advance to the semifinals. Robert won three straight starts from Sept. 8-19 and again from Oct. 24-Nov. 4. Robert's college soccer career as a player ended in the Conference Semi-Finals. At the end of the season, Robert was named 2017-18 Sun Belt Conference Academic Commissioner's List. After his last year playing, Robert stayed another year at Georgia Southern to finish his Master's Degree and to accept the position of Director of Soccer Operations. Robert communicated with senior individuals including University Athletic Staff, Athletic Directors, Restaurant Managers, and University Faculty. Robert also initiated a series of marketing campaigns including email, print, digital, and social posts to increase attendance at camps by 30%, resulting in a 15% increase in revenue. Robert also discovered, negotiated, and secured new relationships with local organizations (i.e. Richmond Hill Soccer Club & Tormenta FC). Robert earned is Master's Degree in Sports Management. Before graduating from college, Robert had worked as a Private Trainer at KAMLife LLC, and an Marketing Intern at Lux Restaurants. After Georgia Southern, Robert pursued a professional soccer career in Asia. Robert had several trials, but was not offered a contract. Robert did train at DC United with the U-23 team, but he decided to pursue his professional career and retire from soccer. Robert moved to England and accepted a position with Night Parrot Agency as a Marketing Agent and Talent Manager. Robert always had a passion for music and he was able to help create music release campaigns, give production input, market brand talent to potential clients, curate music, create content writing, and help book events/tours for agency talent. He would sell artwork and curate art exhibits around London. He would work personally with label talent, while finding and developing new talent. After High School, Hassan chose to play soccer and attend Frostburg University in Western Maryland, despite NCAA Division I and Division II offers. He received starting time almost immediately. He led his Frostburg team into the CAC Conference playoffs and was named Athlete of the Week at Frostburg. He took the team into the second round of the ECAC Tournament. He was named to the All-Conference Freshmen team. He next year brought even greater success. Hassan played in every match and the list of accomplishments were nearly endless. He was named to Region All-American team, All Conference team, Team MVP, ranked second in the nation in save percentage, fifth in the nation in goals allowed, posted 11 shutouts, won another eleven game season, and helped Frostburg to the CAC Playoffs again. In his Junior season, Hassan again helped Frostburg to another 11 win season, a sub 1.0 goals against average (.75), and a place in the ECAC Playoffs. For his Senior season, Hassan continued his streak of excellence. Mostafa capped his impressive Bobcat career by finishing 21st in the nation and pacing the CAC in goalie minutes played (1784:54). He also led the league and finished 67th in Division III in total saves (93). Hassan led the team to a CAC Championship and for his efforts, he was named All Conference for the third time and again named Regional All-American. A four-year starter in net, Mostafa finished his career with a .99 goals against average, 292 saves, 36 wins and 20 shutouts to go with two time Regional All-American and three time All-Conference. Yet, Hassan was not done at Frostburg for athletics. In finishing up his degree, Hassan took an extra semester to be the kicker for the football team at Frostburg. He helped the team to the NCAA Elite Eight and a national ranking. After Frostburg, Hassan has tryouts in his Father's native country of Egypt, but he decided that his life's future was in America. He currently lives in the Columbia, Maryland area where he is a salesperson and he coaches.

Kate is Academy One's resident goalkeeping professor par excellence. An outstanding goalkeeper, an excellent student, and a hard worker. Kate joined the Academy in 2014 when Kate was a top college goalkeeper. She grew up in Olympia, Washington. She was the top keeper in the Upper Peninsula and one of the best in Washington state. Kate played at Blackhills FC for U12-U17 and she was in the state pool Elite Player Development. Elite Player Development is Washington State's version of Olympic Development. Kate's Blackhills FC was competitive with the far larger club teams out of Seattle and Spokane. In high school, Kate was a four year starter at Olympia High School. Where Kate really shined was in the classroom. Kate was the Rensselaer Polytechnic Medal winner, National Honor Society Member and President, AP Scholar with Distinction, and Phi Beta Kappa Award Winner. Kate also sang in the auditioned chamber and symphonic choirs. Kate earned the amazing accomplishment of a perfect SAT score. Kate considered numerous offers and then decided to study and play soccer for Middlebury College in Vermont. Middlebury is and was one of the best liberal arts colleges in North America and the world. Kate started off her college soccer career with a bang. In her first year, Kate helped her Middlebury team to a Conference Championship in the best Conference in NCAA Division III - the NESCAC Conference. Even more impressive was the Middlebury women's team made it all the way to the NCAA Division III National Final Four. The team finished the season with a 17-2-3 record. The next two seasons Kate helped the team to winning records in the very competitive NESCAC Conference. In her final season with Middlebury, Kate led the team to the NESCAC Conference Final Four and then the team made a run in the NCAA Tournament. The team went three matches deep into the NCAA Tournament, but they lost to the eventual national champion Messiah team. During the Summer of 2015, Kate played with the Washington Spirit U20s while in Washington DC. She was also a research intern at The Brookings Institute. The year before she had interned with the Vermont Legislative Fiscal Office. Her most impressive internship, though, was in 2016 when she spent the Summer of 2016 as a research intern for The Council of Economic Advisors in the White House. Kate conducted qualitative and quantitative research on the macroeconomic and finance portfolios; drafted memos and literature reviews; analyzed data; and fact-checked Council reports and briefs. Kate finished her soccer career impressively. While she was studying abroad at the University of St. Andrews, she also played for the women's first team. Kate studied in the Honors program for International Relations and Economics. After graduating from Middlebury Summa Cum Laude with Highest Honors and Phi Betta Kappa with a double major of Political Science and Economics, Kate stayed at Middlebury to accept the Jones Fellow Research Assistant in Economics. She researched behavioral and experimental topics in economics through quantitative and qualitative analysis; created, managed, and analyzed large datasets; drafted literature reviews; and helped write research papers. Kate then accepted a position with NERA Sconomic Consulting. She worked her way up from a research assistant to a full analyst. She programmed in SAS, Stata, and Python to work with large, complex datasets; applied microeconomic analysis across a wide array of industries; designed econometric models to estimate the competitive effects of mergers/acquisitions; managed projects and researcher teams; drafted memos, white papers, and presentation materials; and participated in meetings and calls with clients, counsel, and economists. But then Kate's true passion won her over and she made a giant life changing decision to pursue her passion for academia. Kate entered prestigious Stanford University to earn her Doctorate in Economics and become an Economics Professor. She currently lives in Palo Alto, California. We are so proud of her, but we are also proud to say that she is also an Academy One staff member.

Matt was one of the finest goalkeepers and is one of the finest young coaches, and coaches of goalkeepers in the country. Matt joined Academy One in the fall of 2006 when he was 12 years old. He was the best goalkeeper in the country for his age. This statement is reinforced by Matt winning the Golden Glove award the summer of 2010 for the top club goalkeeper in the country. He did this as he helped his Baltimore Bays club team win the U-15 US Youth Soccer National Championship. They were also Maryland State Champions, Regional Champions and Region I League Champions. As a U-14, Matt's Baltimore club team was Maryland state champs and went undefeated in the US Region I tournament. They missed the Regional finals only by goal differential. Matt's teams have also had success indoors winning US Futsal Federation National Championship Silver Medal and Matt earning US Futsal Federation All-Region team. Matt was a four year member of the Maryland ODP State team and a two year member of the Region I ODP pool. Matt was a true freshmen starter for his nationally ranked McDonogh High School program and was the starter for all of his four years. They finished 2nd in the best private school league in the nation the first two years Matt was the starting goalkeeper. In his Junior year Matt led the team to the Baltimore private school championship and another national ranking. At the end of his junior year club season, Matt was a finalist for the United States Soccer Federation Save of the Year. After his senior year as a high school player, Matt earned All-Conference, All-Met, All-State and Regional All-American. Matt ended his career having led the McDonogh team to three MIAA Conference Championships and recorded a staggering 54 career shutouts: a Maryland state record. Matt is also an excellent golfer (0 handicap) and played for his high school team. He also sang in the choir. More impressive than his club and high school accomplishments is that Matt was the U-15, U-17, U-20 and Men's Puerto Rican National Soccer Team keeper. Matt was chosen to be the Puerto Rican starter for the U-20 Dallas Cup and U-20 World Cup. He was also chosen to be the back-up keeper for the full National Team in their matches against Nicaragua. During his Junior year in high school, Matt committed to a scholarship to play soccer at national power Old Dominion University. In the summer before his senior year, Matt led the U-20 Puerto Rican National team to an undefeated record in group play of FIFA World Cup qualifying. He was named "Man of the Match" by Puerto Rican television after the match with Bermuda. The Puerto Rican U-20 team advanced to the second round of World Cup qualifying. This is the furthest ANY Puerto Rican team has advanced in the history of their soccer program at any level of international play. Matt again led the Puerto Rican team to advancement to the CONCACAAF Championships in Mexico City. This was above and beyond anything any Puerto Rican team had ever achieved in its soccer history. Two tough losses in Mexico City ended the Puerto Rican team's dream of a U-20 World Cup final. Matt ended his international career with 14 appearances with the Puerto Rican Senior Men's National team. After his freshmen year at Old Dominion University, Matt transferred to Loyola University in Baltimore. In his time at Loyola, Matt earned numerous All-Conference honors and Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. After Matt finished his Undergraduate degree in Business, Matt turned down an opportunity to join DC United to pursue a starting position in the USL. Unfortunately, a hand injury stopped his pursuit for a year. The next year Matt joined Rio Grande Valley Toros in the USL. After another hand surgery, Matt ended his playing career and pursued a Master's in Business Administration at Loyola. Matt also started his coaching career at the college level by joining the staff at Loyola University. Matt has been huge in coaching young keepers on the East Coast of the US. Words do not express how proud we are to have Matt as one of the Academy's Directors. His knowledge and insight into goalkeeping and overall coaching are without measure. Matt currently lives in the Baltimore area and besides coaching, he is a Development Associate at Osprey Property Company.

Hannah graduated from West Springfield as an honor student. She accepted an offer to play and study at one of the finest Universities in the world, Princeton University. Hannah was ranked by Top Drawer Soccer as one of the top recruits in the country. In 2013, Hannah played in three of the team's final four games, making a start at Colgate. In 2014, Hannah layed in three games, against Yale, Lehigh and Harvard, getting the start against Harvard. She subbed in for injured starter Darcy Hargadon at Yale and had 82-plus minutes of shutout soccer in helping the team to an Ivy-opening win. 2015 was Hannah's break out season. She started 17 games, getting shutouts against Yale, Brown, Cornell and Penn. She led the team to a very rare Ivy League undefeated season and Conference Championship. She also helped the team all the way to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. This was highly unusual for an Ivy League school. Sadly, injury ruined her Senior season and she did not see game action. Hannah graduated from Princeton with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Hannah then utilized her last year of eligibility and went to Boston College to earn a Master's degree and play in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC is unanimously regarded as the best women's soccer conference in the world. Hannah was able to earn minutes at Boston College and earn her Master's degree from the Woods College of Advancing Studies in Leadership and Administration - Corporate Communications and Marketing.
