Casey Beyers
Undergraduate:
The University of Wisconsin
Graduate:
University of Maryland
Casey joined Academy One in the Fall of 2010. Much was expected from the 6' 5" honor student and he did not disappoint. Casey had only focused on soccer since his sophomore year of high school. From the time he was five years old, Casey was dedicated to baseball. By the time he entered high school, Casey was one of the top baseball players in the country. He played at the top levels of Legion and AAU baseball. After a year of high school at Archbishop Spalding, Casey decided to devote his athletic efforts to soccer. Archbishop Spalding was/is one of the top academic private schools in Maryland. His school plays in the top private school league in the nation for soccer, the MIAA. Casey attended Spalding with fellow Academy member Bridget Bielski. He was the starter for the Spalding soccer team since entering the school his freshmen year. He culminated his junior year with being named All-Conference among the highly competitive group of goalkeepers. He again matched that honor his senior year, as well as adding All-Met for both Baltimore and Washington, All-Anne Arundel County and ESPN All-State honors. At a school where boys soccer has had a poor history, Casey is considered one of the best players to have ever played at the school. As a club player, Casey played in the top division of the National Capital Soccer League. He played with one one the top team in Maryland and the region. His Bethesda club team played in the Region I League for top clubs in the Northeastern United States. During his Junior year of high school, they made the Maryland State Cup final four. They again reached that level the following year. Casey played two years for the Maryland Olympic Development program in the only two years he tried out. He was the starting goalkeeper and regional finalist for Maryland Olympic Development Program in 2010. He also attended the U.S. Men's National Team U-17 camp. During the ODP region tournament, Casey was offered a tryout for U-17 National Team residency. He turned down the offer for the sake of his academic life. Casey was one of the top students at his academically demanding Archbishop Spalding High School. Casey was a finalist for the Academy One Academic Award. Casey committed to a scholarship to play soccer and study engineering at The University of Wisconsin, despite numerous offers from other athletically and academically prestigious schools. It also fulfilled Casey's desire to go to a cold weather university. Fellow Academy member Alex Horwath also attended Wisconsin and helped recruit Casey. During his first year at Wisconsin, Casey took a red-shirt year. In his second season, Casey took over the starting position and led the Badgers to a 4-0-1 record in his first five starts, leading the team to a national ranking for the first time in many years. Casey continued to have success, but injuries hampered his career. He ended his time as a four time All-Big Ten Conference Academic team and eight time member of the University of Wisconsin's Dean's List. Casey spent one SUmmer playing for DC United's U-23 team before returned to Wisconsin for his final year. He graduated from Wisconsin with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. After graduation, Casey was signed to play for Orange County Soccer Club in California. He spent two years with the team and earned starting minutes in both seasons. Casey left the Southern California team and came back home to Maryland to play for FC Baltimore Cristos in the NPSL. He led the team to a Conference Championship. He started for the team during the US Open Cup match against West Chester. At the same time he was playing for Cristos, Casey was an engineering and technology intern at Eaton. After his time with Baltimore Cristos, Casey joined the staff at the University of Maryland soccer team as their goalkeeper coach. He also finished his Master's of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Maryland. Casey currently resides in Central Maryland and is a member of Maryland Power Electronic Laboratory.

Cory Budka
Undergraduate:
University of Charleston
Lynchburg College
Cory has been a member of the Academy One since 2008. He was one of the first members of Class of 2012. In an Academy where every member is an excellent athlete, Cory is one of the most athletic, as well as an excellent student. He has been a member of his high school varsity team, starting from his freshmen year. In his senior year he was named All-County at a school with very little soccer history. He was also an honor student and an accomplished distance runner. As a club player, Cory's team made the State Cup semi-finals in 2009. In 2010, Cory left his then current club team to join one of the top teams in the region (Where he was teammates with Class of 2011 member Nate Ramsland). They finished second in the Region I Colonial League and moved on to finish impressively in the Region I Premier League. They also had an impressive record in the top tournaments around the country. In the Spring of 2011, Cory's team won the Maryland State Cup Championship and lost in the regional finals in overtime. They continue to be one of the top club teams in the nation (He is also teammates with Academy Class of 2012 member Kyle Forbes). At the beginning of Cory's senior year of high school, he accepted a scholarship to play soccer and attend Charleston University. Charleston is a NCAA Division II national power located in West Virginia. After a year at Charleston University, Cory transferred to Lynchburg College for academic reasons. At Lynchburg, Cory had a huge impact as a starter before a severe knee injury ended his soccer career before the beginning of his senior season. Before the injury, Cory was the team's starter and in his first season as starter led Lynchburg to the ODAC Tounament Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, Cory was named to the ODAC All-Tournament team. In his Junior season, Cory had his career season in his third year - shutting out opponents in 11 of 18 games. Cory was one of the top keepers in the conference with a 0.70 goals-against average and .831 save percentage. Unfortunately, that was Cory's last season as a goalkeeper. Cory graduated with honors from Lynchburg with a degree in Computer Science and Criminology. Immediately after college, Cory accepted a position with the Federal Government where he works to this day. Cory currently lives in the Washington DC area.

Katherine Coyer
Undergraduate:

Katherine is one of the most successful multi-sport athletes the Academy has ever had, as well as an amazing person. Because Academy One has a policy of listing everyone who has ever trained with the Academy for any length of time and is still in good standing; we list Katherine even though she never was a full time goalkeeper. Katherine had the potential to be one of the best goalkeepers in the nation for her age, but her insistence on being a national team level defender kept her out of the goal even though she would train with Academy One as a keeper. She was dramatically better as a keeper then the goalkeepers on both her club and high school teams. Katherine led her club team to four Virginia State Club championships, one Region I Championship, another Region I finals appearance, and a third place finish at the US Youth Soccer Nationals. Her club team also won six consecutive league championships in the best club soccer league in the nation at the time. They were so dominate that they went years without losing a match in league or state cup play. They were ranked the #1 team in the nation for long periods of time and won most of the prestigious club tournaments across the country. As a high school player, Katherine was named All-Met and All-District/Conference and led her team to the only title the school has ever won despite being one of the poorest administrated and coached schools in the nation. Unfortunately, Katherine's ability and love for basketball won out over soccer and she accepted, along with her twin sister Caroline, a scholarship to play basketball at nationally ranked Villanova University. Katherine won multiple AAU National Championships and school titles for basketball and was considered one of the top prospects in the country. Katherine was also an honor student and actively involved in numerous school activities. Katherine was so remarkable as an athlete that in a one year period she was on the US National team for basketball AND soccer. Katherine was solid for all four years as a basketball player at Villanova. She started every year and despite injuries, Katherine was a crucial member of the team. After earning a degree in Business Administration and focus on Marketing and Real Estate, Katherine stayed on at Villanova as a Graduate Assistant with the basketball team while earning her Master's in Business Administration. Upon graduation, Katherine pursued her career in the home construction industry. She was an Site Assistant Superintendent and a Superintendent for Dr. Horton Home Builders. She then went to Venus Construction as an Assistant Project Manager and is now a Remodeling Consultant at Power Home Remodeling. She currently lives in the Philadelphia area.

Lexi Halperin
Undergraduate:
Catholic University of America
Lexi is a talented and engaging person who joined the Academy in 2013. She was already one of the top goalkeepers in college soccer. Lexi grew up in Bergen County New Jersey. She played club soccer for TSF Academy and Arsenal Soccer Club. She had great success as a club player for two of the top club teams in New Jersey and the Northeast US. As a high school player, she was a three-year starting goalkeeper at Pascack Valley High School. Lexi was a two-time First Team All-Division Big North Conference selection. She led the team to a 16-4-1 record her senior year with 104 saves and only 14 goals against. Lexi was an All-County selection as a Senior in 2011/2012. She graduated as an honor student and one of the finest goalkeepers in the school's history. Lexi chose Catholic University of America for academics and soccer. It is no coincidence that Catholic’s most successful run in program history happened during Lexi’s career as the starting goalkeeper. A four-year starter in goal, Lexi graduated holding seven different CUA goalkeeping records, along with a degree in civil engineering. After two seasons of hard work and dedication to reestablish CUA Women’s Soccer as a championship caliber team, Lexi and the Cardinals took the Landmark Conference and Mid-Atlantic region by storm in 2014. The road to the conference title, a Top 25 national ranking, and NCAA Tournament was led by the First Team All-Landmark and Second Team All-Region goalkeeper, as she set single season program records for wins (15), shutouts (10) and goals against average (0.67). The River Vale, New Jersey, native continued that success in 2015 as the senior captain led the Cardinals to back-to-back conference championships and a second consecutive trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Lexi bested her own record for wins in a season with 17, which helped her post career records for wins (47), shutouts (25), and goals against average (0.98). Lexi also set the mark with 75 career starts and recorded 279 saves in four years. Lexi’s phenomenal career closed as one of only a handful of players in CUA history to be named to four all-conference teams – First Team All-Landmark in 2012 and 2014; Second Team All-Landmark in 2013 and 2015. She was selected to both the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Regio n Second Team and ECAC D3 South All-Star First Team in 2014. Finally, Lexi made the Landmark Conference Honor Roll each of her eligible years. Lexi graduated from Catholic as the greatest goalkeeper in the school's history. During every Summer while at Catholic, Lexi was busy interning. She interned with The Institute for World Politics, James Davis Construction, and Balfour Beatty Construction. The internship with Balfour Beatty led to a permanent position with the company upon her graduating from Catholic University. She has been a Project Engineer, Senior Project Engineer, Assistant Superintendent, and Assistant Project Manager. Lexi lives in the Washington D.C. area with her rogue husband.

What was more impressive was that Andrew didn't give up a single goal during the Academy playoffs while playing in all the playoff games, except for the third place match. Andrew's Academy team also won the Disney Showcase playing up an age group in both 2008 and 2009 (Nick Voyton was Andrew's teammate). The previous year, Andrew's club team won the U-15 US Youth Soccer National Championship. Andrew's team also won the United States Youth Soccer National League for the top club teams in the US. Overall, Andrew's club teams have won three State Cups and have finished either second or third in U.S. Region I Championships. Andrew was a member of Maryland State ODP state team in the only year he played ODP. Andrew has had huge success in his high school career. His high school team has never had a strong soccer history, but since Andrew has been in goal, he has led them to the greatest success in the school's soccer history. As a sophomore, Andrew was named All-Conference. In his junior year he led his team to the prestigious Baltimore private school championship (Considered the best boy's soccer conference in the nation) and a national ranking. As the team's captain, Andrew was named All-Conference, All-County, All-Met, All State, Regional All-American and High School All-American. He was also named the Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Week, Baltimore Sun Soccer Player of the Year and Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Year. In his senior year, Andrew again led his team to the finals, but lost in overtime to Academy member Matt Sanchez' team. Andrew was again named All-Conference, All-County, All-Met, All State, Regional All-American and High School All-American. Andrew was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Maryland. Andrew ran track at his high school and achieved an amazing feet when he high jumped his height. Andrew graduated from Gilman High School as an honor student, a Peer Educator, a member of the Spirit Committee, Class Vice President, and the best soccer player in the history of the school. In the spring of his junior year, Andrew accepted a scholarship offer to play at Wake Forest University. Andrew planned to red shirt his first season at Wake Forest, but his performance at practice was so exceptional that the coaches decided to start him the second half of the season. He helped the team to a multi game run into the NCAA Tournament. His second year was even better. He was the team's starter where they achieved a NCAA #1 ranking. The team went on another deep run into the NCAA tournament, but was upset by Notre Dame in the third round. Unfortunately, Andrew was seriously injured before the start of his Junior year and had to rehab for the entire year. In his Senior year, Andrew was able to play in five matches with a four wins and one loss record. Andrew still struggled with his injuries, even though the team flourished and went on to a great season. After considering opportunities to play another year with his year of eligibility, Andrew retired from soccer due to his injuries. Andrew graduated from Wake Forest with a degree in English Language and Literature and a degree in Communications and Media Studies. After Wake Forest, Andrew moved to Chicago and took a job with CEB (Now Gartner) as a Business Development Associate. He eventually worked his way up Senior Account Management Specialist. After a couple years with CEB/Gartner, Andrew took a position with Uber Eats, where he is now a Title Enterprise Regional Partner Manager. Talented, regal, elegant, mysterious, and Academy One's international woman-about-town. Sasha joined Academy One in the summer of 2010 as one of the top keepers in Maryland and the Eastern part of the United States, in her age. She played club for one of the best teams in the country, Bethesda Soccer Club. Her club team played in the Elite Clubs National League. The ECNL, before US Soccer Academy for women, was limited to only the top teams in the nation and the best level of competition for women's club soccer. For a season, Sasha was a teammate with fellow Academy member Morgan Ruhl. In the past, her team has won one Maryland State Cup championship and also earned a spot in the Maryland State Cup final four. Her teams have always been a perennial power in premier level tournaments across the country. In the summer before her senior year of high school, Sasha's team qualified for the prestigious ECNL playoffs. At the playoffs in Denver, Sasha was offered a scholarships to nationally ranked colleges based on her playoff performance. Aside from club play, Sasha was a three year member of the Maryland State ODP team. Sasha has had one of the most successful high school soccer careers in Academy history in helping her Bethesda - Chevy Chase High School team to three Maryland State Championships. Sasha had been a starter since her freshmen year. She would have been a four year starter, but knee surgery prevented her from a fourth year, and most likely kept her team from a fourth state cup championship. Sasha was an honor student in the challenging International Baccalaureate/AP/Honors program at her high school. No one has broken our heart as much as Sasha. After graduation is where our heartbreak begins with Sasha. Sasha took a year off before college and decided not to accept the scholarship offers from several colleges, but she decided to accept an offer to play at Old Dominion University. Before leaving for Old Dominion, Sasha decided to take more time off before school and travel abroad. After returning to the US, Sasha decided to not play college soccer despite her ability to play at the highest level. She enrolled at the University of Colorado, but then changed her mind again and went back to work. She eventually ended up at University of Westminster in London where she studied business management. During her time at Westminster, Sasha interned at The Mortgage Bankers Association. She worked in public relations and meeting organization. When she finished at Westminster, Sasha took a position at Gucci. At Gucci, Sasha directly supports the managing director of a global campaign to raise funds for women’s issues. She helped develop, promote, and create content for Gucci's digital storytelling platform. Sasha travels the world, but she resides in Washington, D.C.

For many years she was a regionally ranked figure skater in New England and after giving up figure skating, Emma was one of the top high school ice hockey players in her state. Emma founded a book drive for disadvantaged youth that has donated over 7000 books since 2007 while in middle school. In high school, Emma played on the soccer and hockey team, and also played in the orchestra. She lead her team to their first ever Middlesex League Championship. With numerous offers from many excellent schools (MIT, Yale, Bowdoin, Johns Hopkins etc.) Emma committed to play soccer and attend prestigious Vassar College for the fall of 2012. She had an amazing career at Vassar and finished as one of the best goalkeepers the program has ever had. Her list of accomplishments is lengthy: three time Liberty League All-Academic Team, Liberty League First-Team all League, multiple ECAC Defender of the Week, multiple Liberty League Defender of the Week, CoSIDA Academic All-District, set program records for career shutouts (14) and single-season shutouts (8). She started every year she was at Vassar. And if that wasn't enough, Emma was a member of the Vassar Community Wind Ensemble and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Psi Chi honor societies. After graduating from Vassar, Emma interned at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health where she participated in the six-week immersion program in biostatistics, focused on statistical methods in clinical trials. After her internship, Emma attended The University of Washington and the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation. As a Post-Bachelor Fellow, she worked on modeling neurological disorders for the Global Burden of Disease Project. In this role, she conducted systematic reviews, extracted data from surveys and literature sources, ran statistical models, and vetted results. She was also heavily involved in a paper series on neurological disorders that was published in Lancet Neurology. Emma graduated from Washington with a near flawless grade point average. Emma chose to then attend Johns Hopkins University's world famous School of Public Health for her Doctorate. She is studying the measurement of cognitive decline and dementia. She is interested in the ways in which better measurement can lend new insights to etiologic questions. Emma lives in the Baltimore area while studying at Johns Hopkins.

Morgan Ruhl
Undergraduate:
Louisiana State University
Morgan joined the Academy as a goalkeeper in the summer of 2010 when she was 15. She was one of the finest goalkeepers in the country when she played and is now one of the finest young coaches in the country. She attended McDonogh High School, where she led the team to numerous championships and numerous personal awards and honors in the toughest private school league in the country. She was multiple times All-State, All-Conference, All-County, and was named one of the top 100 players in the nation stated by Soccer America. She finished her high school soccer career as one of the greatest players to have ever played at her school. Morgan was also a member of the National Honor Society and played Varsity Softball. More than her high school accomplishments, Morgan was among the best club goalkeepers in the country. She was a three year member of the US National team. She was a four year member of the Region I ODP team and a four year member of the Maryland State ODP team. During her junior year, Morgan's club team won the Virginia State Cup, the Region I Championship and finished second at US Nationals (Before the days of US Soccer Academy or ECNL). Morgan went on to achieve the Golden Glove Award at the Adidas ESP Camp for the top 100 players in the nation. Morgan changed to a more local club team in her senior year and led them to national prominence in tournament and state cup play. In the fall of her junior year, Morgan committed to a scholarship to play at Louisiana State University. Sadly, a severe hip injury in the first days of her college career harshly restricted her ability to play. Even with a brutal hip injury that required multiple surgeries, she was still able to play some in college. More remarkable was that in her senior year, she was named the Goalkeeper Coach while still a player. After graduating from LSU, Morgan was hired at Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland as an Assistant Coach. She coached at the US Soccer Academy level with Washington Spirit - Baltimore Armour where she was the Director of Goalkeeping and Assistant Coach. After a couple years as a full time university coach, Morgan was called back into the playing ranks joining the Washington Spirit as a goalkeeper at the highest level of women's professional soccer. Morgan finished the year with the Spirit in 2018 and returned to her coaching. Morgan left Loyola University and took a position with nationally prestigious Northwestern University as an Assistant Coach. She takes Academy One to the Midwest. Words do not express how proud we are to have Morgan and one of the Academy's Directors. Her knowledge and insight into goalkeeping and overall coaching are without measure. Morgan currently lives in the Chicago area with her beloved dogs.
Nick Voyton
Undergraduate:
University of Maryland Honors College
Nick became a member of Academy One the spring of 2010. He is one of the most well liked and respected members in the Academy's history. Nick played for one of the top ranked high school programs in the state, region, and nation. River Hill High School is the same high school where Academy members Matthew Aguiniga and Tomas Potts also played. Nick was the school's starting keeper since his Freshmen year. In his Junior year, Nick was awarded Howard All-County and Maryland All-State honors as he had one of the best statistical seasons ever for his high school. In his senior year, Nick again had an excellent season and was named All-County and All-State, as well as All-Metro. His high school career was even more lionized when Nick was named to the Howard County All-Decade Team. Nick ended his time at River Hill High School as one of the best students in his class, as well as best athletes. Nick was a member of the SGA Government as well. Nick was a two time member of the Maryland State ODP team in the only two years he participated in Olympic Development. Nick played on one of the best US Soccer Academy teams in the nation, in the #1 ranked club program in the nation. Nick's Baltimore Bays US Soccer Academy team established their huge reputation finishing third in the national finals. They also won the Disney Academy Tournament twice playing up an age group (Academy members Andrew Harris, Matt Barth, and Brian Gore were Nick's teammates). In his second US Soccer Academy year, Nick helped his team to another Academy playoffs. Despite Nick's excellent academic and athletic record, he turned down scholarship offers at NCAA Division I programs and many more positions on nationally ranked or prominent NCAA Division III college programs. We were heartbroken with Nick's decision fueled by his burnout from soccer. Nick did accept an offer to attend the prestigious University of Maryland Honors College for top academic students. He made the difficult decision to not play college soccer, but he played club soccer at Maryland. He graduated from Maryland with honors and pursued his passion in the business world. We will always wonder what if, but Nick has always been an individual of remarkable character and achievement. Either way, we are proud to have him as alumni.
