Katherine is one of the most successful multi-sport athletes the Academy has ever had, as well as an amazing person. Because Academy One has a policy of listing everyone who has ever trained with the Academy for any length of time and is still in good standing; we list Katherine even though she never was a full time goalkeeper. Katherine had the potential to be one of the best goalkeepers in the nation for her age, but her insistence on being a national team level defender kept her out of the goal even though she would train with Academy One as a keeper. She was dramatically better as a keeper then the goalkeepers on both her club and high school teams. Katherine led her club team to four Virginia State Club championships, one Region I Championship, another Region I finals appearance, and a third place finish at the US Youth Soccer Nationals. Her club team also won six consecutive league championships in the best club soccer league in the nation at the time. They were so dominate that they went years without losing a match in league or state cup play. They were ranked the #1 team in the nation for long periods of time and won most of the prestigious club tournaments across the country. As a high school player, Katherine was named All-Met and All-District/Conference and led her team to the only title the school has ever won despite being one of the poorest administrated and coached schools in the nation. Unfortunately, Katherine's ability and love for basketball won out over soccer and she accepted, along with her twin sister Caroline, a scholarship to play basketball at nationally ranked Villanova University. Katherine won multiple AAU National Championships and school titles for basketball and was considered one of the top prospects in the country. Katherine is also an honor student and actively involved in numerous school activities. We wish Katherine well in her basketball exploits, but we will wonder how great a goalkeeper she might have been.
